Sylvia Racine has been creating her unique cut and pierced paper lampshades for over ten years and now calls Cambridge, Ontario her home. Each shade is handcrafted, delicately painted or unpainted, with particular attention given to detail. Giving old bases a new look by creating a custom made lampshade is one of her specialties. Sylvia paints using the technique called 'reverse painting'. This means that the lampshade is painted with a light wash from the inside...and only when the light is turned on, can one see the beautiful glow of the various colours.

As always Sylvia carries a large selection of lampshade supplies for cut & pierced, victorian and country fabrics; lamp bases including hurricane, mason and basket electrical adapters and of course lampshade kits for every skill level.

Sylvia has a wonderful country booth in the St Jacob's Farmers’ Market. Hours for the Market are 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Thursdays and Saturdays and 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM on Tuesdays during July, August and September. She carries a complete line of cut and pierced lampshades (including hurricane, clip, bridge and washer top) and matching lamp bases; ecclectic country giftware and a smattering of antiques including one of her favourite collectibles...vintage bobbins. Country connoisseurs know that they can always find a good selection of reproduction enamelware; primitive and country angels; vintage tins and lots of unique retro kitchenware. This "little store" is a must see when visiting Waterloo County. Sylvia will again be in Ottawa's best show...The Nepean Craft Show from November 2nd till 6th at the Nepean Sportsplex and the Kitchener Christkindl Market, November 30th till December 4th …a wonderful authentic German Christmas Market right here in Southern Ontario. Sylvia is now a distributor for the company ‘Hooked on Rugs’. Beautiful handcrafted crocheted rag rugs, made out of mill end fabric rolls, can now be purchased, along with the necessary fabric, pattern book and crochet hook to make your own. Courses are $60.00 and include 4 pounds of fabric, book, hook and a two hour lesson.
